Becoming a Counselor

Troop 61 encourages parents to become Merit Badge Counselors. To find out more information, talk to our Advancement Chair (Bob Burrows).

 

To REGISTER as a Merit Badge Counselor:

 

1. Fill in the Merit Badge Counselor Application Form (see "Forms" on Homepage).

2. Complete the BSA Adult Application Form (see "Forms" on Homepage)

  • Enter position code “42” and “merit badge counselor” as the position
  • This form is required even if you are already registered with BSA

3. Take Youth Protection

  • It takes less than 15 minutes online.
  • Go to www.scouting.org/training/YouthProtection.aspx and follow the instructions . If you don’t have an account you will have to create one. If you don’t have a membership id leave that blank.
  • Print the certificate
