About Joining...
If you are interested in joining, please come to one or more meetings on Thursdays at 7pm at the Palisades Community Church (5200 Cathedral Ave NW).
If you decide to join, you will need:
Scout Uniform and Handbook
Visit the Scout Shop at 9190 Rockville Pike in Bethesda (at Cedar Lane) and purchase the following (about $100 in total):
-
Scout Handbook
-
Shirt (most boys have short sleeve)
-
Pants (most boys get the one you can zip off into shorts)
-
Socks
-
Belt
-
Shoulder epaulettes
The Troop will provide you with all of your patches (Council, World crest, Troop number, Patrol) and at his first campout, your son will be presented with a neckerchief and slide.
Paperwork
We need you to fill in three forms (2 for your son, 1 for yourself):
-
New Youth Application; and
-
Annual Health and Medical Form (Parts A and B)
-
Troop Resource Survey (where you, the parent, might help the Troop)
They can be found on the "forms" link to the left.
Regarding the Health form, there are 3 Parts. Parts A and B are to be filled in by the parents and handed in now, along with a photocopy of your health card (front and back). Part C is only required for summer camp, but needs to be filled in by your son’s physician. Once complete, please give the forms to Joel Hemphill (Scoutmaster) or to Vicki Burns (Troop Committee Chair).
Annual Dues
We charge $200 for the year (Sept to June). This includes all activities and camping trips, but excludes summer camp. Checks should be made payable to “BSA Troop 61” and given to Joel, Vicki or Polly Johnson (our treasurer). If you join mid-year, we will prorate dues.
